Now that Wildstar has launched and the Guest Passes are available, a lot of people will probably have friends starting the game for the first time. Folks who have already have a head start may be too high level to go back and help their friends who are starting out.
The problem is that you’ve been busting your hump on your main and you’re a few levels higher than your homies that are just starting out. Well you have a couple of options.
- Option A: You can just tell your buddy “tough cookies cupcake, I did it you can do it” and keep grinding.
- Option B: Means going back to hang out with them and get all nostalgic about when you first started Wildstar, like I dunno 4 days ago.
I’m sure you’re thinking, well how is my level 19 going to help out a level 12? Well when you are grouped up with lower level compadres you can temporarily lower your own levels and stats using Wildstar’s Mentoring feature. That way you don’t take all the aggro or one shot mobs.
Here’s the disclaimer, you won’t get as much XP if you’ve completed all of the quests in the area since you’ll probably only be getting kill XP.
On the plus side you will keep access to your full bar and all of your skills. You’ll still be able to fight the same way you were fighting in the higher level zone while traipsing about back in the lower level zones. Oh and if you are a Survivalist you’ll still get tradeskill XP and tradeskill loot for kills so that’s something.
OK so now that you know the theory behind Mentoring, you’d probably like to know how to actually do it. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. Here’s how:
- First off you need to group up with the person you’re going to mentor.
- Once you’re in range, right click on their name in the group window.
- Next go down and click Group.
- Then Click Mentor Player.
Congratulations now you’re a noob again!
Hopefully this helps people have even more fun when hanging with their homies. I know this has made it a lot easier for me to bust my hump while leveling and then go back to share some time with my Guildies. After all, what’s the point of playing a Massively Multiplayer if I’m just going to be running around by myself all of the time right?
Anyways, it is now time to go float in the river and relax. Now I just need to find some way to make a raft and margaritas. Definitely margaritas.
