For the last couple of weeks I’ve been having all kinds of issues with my NVidea graphics card. It’s been a royal pain in the ass. I’d log into WoW and somewhere between 15 to 30 minutes of playtime, my graphics drivers would lock up leaving pretty purple squiggles all over my screen.
I’d updated the drivers. I’d reinstalled the drivers. I’d removed Windows updates and re-updated. Nope nothing has been working so far. As best I can tell the hardware of my Graphics card is just fine. Considering what I paid for it a year ago it’d damn well better be, but that’s another story.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts I have a Frankenstein machine that I put together myself. I’ve added and removed sound cards, upgraded graphics cards, all that goodness. Over the years my hard drive has become cluttered with all kinds of happy and quite useless stuff. The important items I’m trying to rescue before the inevitable.
I picked up a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate which I plan to use to nuke and pave my system. I love that phrase, I learned it back in one of my IT jobs and it just stuck. It’s kind of nice to think that I’m going to wipe the slate clean and put in a whole new set of stuff.
While yes, upgrading the operating system does seem to be a bit much for just a graphics driver issue, there’s all kinds of issues I hope to take care of with an upgrade to Windows 7. Most of the issues include just wiping out software that Vista just couldn’t seem to uninstall. Fun huh?
Hopefully the upgrade goes well and once again I’ll be able to use my computer with confidence.
